Leaving the cinema after watching X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, probably the first thing I thought to myself was: it’s gonna be really hard to be objective in my review for this film. Whether you’ll find yourself disappointed or blown away by the latest cinematic installment in the X-franchise depends heavily on your expectations going in. Therein lies the reason the film is leaving fans and critics so divided.
The latest issue of ALL-NEW X-MEN is a giant leap in the right direction for the series. It uses its great cast of characters to tell an emotional story, all while being entertaining and launching into a new arc.
X-MEN: FIRST CLASS is still an immensely entertaining film. It has its problems, but thanks to several factors and the passage of time it is better than ever. It’s fun, fresh, and a lot different than all of the other films in its family.
EXTRAORDINARY X-MEN #9 is the untold tale of what happened to Colossus and his students after their leap 1000 years into the future. And while it’s emphasis on the book’s supporting characters comes off fresh and delighting, the story arc visibly suffers from how it’s barely innovative.
